Kabane Eastman

Eastman, Québec

2003 / 2004

At Eastman, in the Eastern Townships, an open landscape: a treeless prairie with some shrubs, wind and sun – a northern savannah.

On this vast site, a simple architectural program: an open-plan country house, with a single closed bedroom and a veranda.

The challenge of the project here is to make little into large, to match the site’s scale.
To achieve this, two superimposed orders:

  • a minor order: the residence composed of three distinct main structures: the veranda/the house/the bedroom.

  • a major order: a vast autonomous metallic roof, above the residence, protecting it from the sun and rain.

Simply a mark above the horizon line.
